Wow! I can’t believe it has been a week since I last blogged. The nap strike really took a lot out of me last week. I am happy to report that we are no longer on a nap strike (knock on wood). Baby man has been sleeping 3-4 hours each day this week, thank goodness! I was finally able to devote some time this week to couponing/ meal planning and we are all much happier.
Another thing that has caught my attention this week is the Divergent series. OMG. I am OBSESSED. I finished the first book in 2 days and I am halfway through the second. This is the reason I haven’t been blogging. I literally (figuratively? I always get those confused) can’t put down my Kindle. I find myself reading while breastfeeding, while playing and while Robert sleeps. Of course, I am too tired to read at night, so I have to find time for it during the day. It is taking over my life and I love it! The third book comes out in a couple of weeks!
Obsession aside, I have still been saving money these last 7 days. Here is an update for my own personal records.
Days 39-45 of the 365 Day Challenge
Day 39: eat out for cheap On Friday, Robert and I drove down to have lunch with Tom. It was tempting to go to a nice restaurant in downtown Naples, but we opted for good ol’ Subway instead. It’s cheap, fast and always satisfying. Besides, I went to meet him so we could show off our baby at his office, not have a 5 star lunch.
Day 40: dinner party for less We had Tom’s brother and his girlfriend over for dinner. I am always tempted to buy nice ingredients and show off my culinary skills. Instead, we used ingredients we had on hand and made blackened tilapia and grits, one of my favorites.
Day 41: buy discounted newspapers for the coupons I meet up at Publix every Sunday to buy discounted newspapers from a woman who buys them wholesale. Sounds pretty shady to me, but it helps me out! Another way I have done cheap papers in the past is to subscribe to the Sunday only paper. My old town did it for $30 a year and sometimes you could find Groupons for even cheaper. Beats paying $2 a paper every Sunday.
Day 42: make your own granola bars Recipe to come soon! I am still perfecting it! If I can’t find granola bars for less than $1 at the grocery store, I make my own. This batch was crunchy and delish! Can’t wait to take pics and share the recipe.
Day 43: get on a drug store schedule I find that I save more money at CVS and Walgreens when I plan out a weekly shopping trip. I spent $5.20 and got over $30 worth of products. I am going to make Tuesday my new drug store shopping day.
Day 44: start the envelope system I have a budget of $100 every week for all of my spending at stores. I find that it is easy to go over the $100 when I use my debit card. I am now going to take out $100 every Sunday and spend only that amount. If I don’t spend $100 then I will save it for something else.
Day 45: use separate transactions to maximize savings I have about 40 $5 off $30 Winn Dixie coupons that don’t expire until January. The coupon states that I can only use one per transaction, so I separate my groceries into piles that equal $30. I ended up saving as much as I spent today using separate transactions!
While I may not have been taking the time to share all of this in detail, I am still making an effort to save money every. single. day. I can’t stop!
Robert is sitting now! He wants to sit all the time, but he can’t get into the position on his own. When he falls he needs help to get back up. But I have a feeling it will be no time before he can get into a seated position on his own. Here are some pics from the past week
